HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Buccaneers stormed onto the field, responsible for the match's first six shots, of which five were on goal. However, the home team only managed to score on the final one in the 14th minute, off the leg of Amanda Traynor.
  • The Sharks finally logged their first shot a minute later and registered the last five of the half, but they were all either blocked or wide.
  • They finally found their equalizer in the 81st minute, when Hannah Christophe assisted Emma Heikkila from 30 yards out.
  • The final ten minutes of regulation saw a few chances, but no goals, so the game went into overtime.
  • Following two corner kicks and a handful of close calls, Heikkila hit Sofia Del Stabile with a perfect pass, as she scored the golden goal at the 93:27 mark from six yards away.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Heikkila and Del Stabile both notched their third goals of the season, giving them a share of the team lead with Adanna Edwards. For Del Stabile, it was also her third game-winner of the season and her second OT goal.
  • This is the second year in a row Head Coach John Constable has led his squad to a 4-0 start in SSC play. In 2015, his first year at the helm, the team started 4-1 in conference play.
  • Del Stabile is just the second player in program history to score two golden goals in one season, joining Shayla Ruddock (2002), and has already tied Ruddock, Malin Broberg, Sierra Lelii, and Julia Nytorp for the most in a career.

STATS OF THE NIGHT:
  • The Sharks dominated the shot margin out of halftime, with a combined 15-5 advantage between the second half and overtime.
  • Aside from scoring both goals, Heikkila and Del Stabile also combined for nine of the team's 21 shots and six of eight shots on goal. Nicole Staley added four shots off the bench.
  • The Bucs entered this matchup with the conference's second-stingiest defense, allowing just three goals in five games, for a 0.55 goals against average, while recording four shutouts.
  • Heikkila's goal also ended Barry's 409-minute scoreless streak, a run that spanned five games, with their last goal allowed coming on September 3.
